There are several techniques that can be employed for labiaplasty, including a trim or wedge procedure. Dr. Okada will help select the ideal procedure for you based on your specific concerns and desires, and her professional experience. 

 

 Preparing for Treatment

LABIAPLASTY CONCERNS & EXPECTATIONS

  • Initial Assessment

    Dr. Okada will meet with you to discuss your concerns and desires pertaining to your labiaplasty. She’ll review your medical history, answer your questions and set expectations for moving forward. She may take medical photos during this initial consultation.

  • During Treatment

    Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure, which is usually performed in an hour. Depending on your needs and Dr. Okada’s recommendations, it will be performed under local or general anesthesia.

  • Recovery Timeline

    This sensitive area will require special care during healing post-surgery. Certain physical activities (like sexual intercourse or riding a bicycle, for example) will need to be avoided until fully healed (usually at least six weeks).

Will this procedure hurt? 

There is some discomfort associated with this surgery. Dr. Okada will help you manage any pain you feel post-surgery. While Dr. Okada will use stitches, they will not need to be removed, but will be absorbed by your body within about 10 days. During the healing process, some patients experience itching, and we recommend wearing a pad during the healing process.

Labiaplasty and vaginoplasty, are they the same? Is this the same as a vaginoplasty?

A Vaginoplasty is an internal procedure to change shape or tighten the vagina. Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty are not the same.

What are the possible side effects or risks of a labiaplasty?

Any labiaplasty carries some risks. Dr. Okada will review these with you ahead of the procedure, and gain your consent on several forms. Possible risks might include:

  • Itching during healing

  • Infection and bleeding

  • Scarring

  • Reduced sensitivity of the genitals
