Answers to Common Questions

What happens during an initial consultation at Stratus?

Regardless of the reason for your visit, our primary concern is your comfort. We strive to provide a private and relaxing environment in which you can ask your questions, learn about your options, and discuss your desires and concerns with Dr. Okada.

You’ll be greeted when you come through the door, and we’ll offer you sparkling water or tea. We promise not to keep you waiting long before Dr. Okada will usher you to one of our private consultation rooms. Here you can ask any questions you might have, and show Dr. Okada any pertinent areas of concern. You’ll learn about the procedure you are interested in, and if you and Dr. Okada decide to proceed, you’ll leave with next steps and all the information you need.

What steps do you take to ensure patient privacy?

All of our consultations are conducted in private offices, and your patient information is protected as it would be in any medical practice, in keeping with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). For our gender affirmation patients, we take the extra step of ensuring that you will have plenty of time alone with the doctor, and that you will not share the waiting area with other patients during your time at our offices. We understand that privacy is critical to all our patients, and we are happy to discuss any particular needs you may have ahead of your visit to our office.

Do you accept insurance for payment?

Some of the procedures provided by Stratus are covered by insurance. In general, to be covered, a procedure must be deemed “medically necessary,” and there are several different ways insurance companies determine whether a procedure meets this designation. Cosmetic surgery and aesthetic services are very rarely “medically necessary,” and so are paid for at the time of service. Stratus also offers options for financing through CareCredit and Alphaeon Credit.

Stratus Plastic Surgery is in-network with several major commercial payors: Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Health Care, Medical Mutual of Ohio, and the OhioHealthy plan. We unfortunately do not accept Aetna, CareSource, Medicare, or Medicaid plans.

Current accepted healthcare plans:

  • Anthem Blue Traditional

  • Anthem Blue Access (PPO)

  • Anthem Blue Access-OH II

  • Anthem Blue Access-OH I

  • Anthem Blue Preferred Primary Plus (POS)

  • Anthem Blue Preferred Primary (HMO)

  • Cigna

  • UHC Options PPO

  • UHC Commercial Plan

  • UHC Indemnity

  • Medical Mutual of Ohio (and affiliates)

  • OhioHealthy Medical Plan

If we are in-network with your insurance carrier, you will only be responsible for a copay at the time of consultation, and co-insurance to cover your out-of-pocket portion of the procedure. Post-operative appointments are usually covered for 90 days.

In the event that insurance coverage is not possible, patients can opt to self-pay for surgery.
